At USAP Community School, the commitment to fostering well-rounded students goes beyond the traditional classroom. Our students actively engage in a variety of extracurricular events that enhance their skills, confidence, and teamwork and underline our school value of CURIOSITY. One of the goals of our robust and diverse extracurricular program is to teach students to strive for excellence through hard work, collaboration and positive risk taking. Here’s a snapshot of the recent achievements and experiences our students have had in various activities on a particularly-activity filled long weekend spanning July 26th to 28th 2024.
1. Chess Club Triumphs at Gateway High School
The Chess Club recently participated in an interschools chess tournament held at Gateway High School, showcasing impressive strategic skills and competitive spirit. Our female A Team, made up of Hazel Ncube, Idirashe Mlambo, Tresalyn Masheka and Victoria Nyakuromba, won the girls’ tournament and delivered outstanding performances, also securing individual gold medals on Boards 2, 3 and 4. The boys’ team, comprising Cletus Moyo, David Tonderai Zireva, Fortune Gamura, and Sean Mutunhire, also achieved a remarkable feat,coming 3rd out of 17 boys’ teams with Sean also winning the gold medal for Board 2.

2. Model UN Experience at Chisipite Senior School
A select group of four USAP students took part as delegates at ChiMUN, the Model United Nations Conference at Chisipite Senior School. This event was an excellent opportunity for them to practice skills such as teamwork, public speaking, confidence, and leadership. Engaging in simulated international diplomacy allowed them to deepen their understanding of global issues while honing their communication abilities.

3. Archery Tournament
On Sunday, our archery team recently competed in an inter-schools tournament coordinated by the Zimbabwe Association, demonstrating their precision and focus. Notable performances included U6 student David Zireva who shot an impressive 277 to come 9th out of 74 archers and L6 student Wiseman Makore came 14th with a score of 274.

4. Africa Science Buskers Festival Achievements
In another notable achievement, a group of 20 USAP student participated as finalists in the Africa Science Buskers Festival held at Celebration Centre, where they excelled and won seven awards. Makanaka Makumbe and Bianca Mujakachi won gold medals for their proejcts, Martha Zimira and Danai Manikwa won silver, and Ashely Dzingai and Kundai Chirambayi won bronze medals. Luyanda Ntara made us proud by being awarded the Zimbabwe Energy Sustainability Prize. This science fair allowed our students to explore scientific concepts in creative and engaging ways beyond the classroom, fostering their curiosity and passion for science whilst addressing UN Sustainability Development Goals. Their success at this event underscores their hard work matched with innovative approach and dedication to scientific inquiry.
